The Movado Ermeto travel watch was introduced in 1926 and patented in 1928. The Movado Ermeto name is derived from the Greek language and stands for ‘hermetically sealed’. And as you may know this semi-automatic mechanism, in this case the Movado in-house caliber 11 winds itself while you slide the shells open and close. There is also a claim that if you slide the case 6 times a day it will provide you with the correct time for a straight 24-hour period. On the inside of the case back it doesn’t have just the one patent, I counted five in total, one from France, Germany, England, USA and last but definitely not least Switzerland. Several famous, well know names owned one or two Movado Ermeto's but, Andy Warhol took the cake and, owned at least six different models.
The sterling case shells are covered with shagreen, and the crystal is mineral glass. All in all, it’s a genius design, totally original, nothing has been altered or changed, other than a total overhaul, tuning and adjusting, and a slight hand buffing to make the sterling silver shine again.
