We have a new gem in our web-store.It's a scrumptious utterly unique 24-hour open face pocket watch from the Swiss Longines brand. According to the Longines data the pocket watch dates from 1925. There are several eye-catching points that make this pocket watch stand out, the first and foremost is the striking 24-hour dial. The dial is totally unblemished, made of white partially mat and glossy enamel, with red and black lacquered Breguet numerals. Mind you, reading a 24- hour dial takes a whole new discipline.
The case is in a lovely condition with a very fine pattern pressed into the caseback which looks and feels as if it just arrived straight from the factory floor, this is probably due to the still existing original pouch it has been kept in. In the middle of the pattern you have an medallion where you can have your initials engraved.
On the second case back cover called the ‘cuvette’ also referred to as dust cover you can see the stunning winged Longines emblem which reads Longines EFCo, refering to the founder of the company - Ernest Francillon (July 1834 - April 1900). The Swiss silver hallmark for 800 is the Capercaillie, which is a huge woodland grouse. The case is triple marked with it, once on the pendent, on the rim of the case, under the cuvette, and on the inside of the case back. The 800 silver compound is a more durable silver and therefore less prone to damage. The hands are rose gold colored in 'Poires Stuart' style. Another eye-catching aspect is the rose gold, bezel's. The union shaped original crown is also created in a rose gold tone. The cuvette carries the “7 Grand Prix” medallions, this indicates that the watchmaker received 7 awards during prestigious competitions, such as International Exhibitions, these markings of profound quality were often found on Longines (pocket) watches. Inside you will find the Swiss 15 jewel Longines caliber 19.75 N which was launched in 1902. And while a normal 12-hour watch runs twice in 24 hours, a 24 hour only runs once.
Can you imagine this lovely piece of history with your initials engraved on the back...
