You might think well nice watch but what’s up with the balls, so let me explain. The five balls refer to the revolutionary engineering of Eterna-Matic movement. The 5 balls provide a buffer, support and a balance to the automatic rotor and thereby ensuring the frictionless movement of the automatic rotor, which is also beneficiary to the wear of the rotor. In the creation of this perfect and unique solution using the ball-bearing mounted rotor system, they manage to gain worldwide attention and huge success. With this revolutionary invention, it became apparent that this was the turning point within the standard of automatic movements. The first ball bearing-mounted rotor system was the caliber 1198, which was introduced in 1948.
The automatic was produced in several sizes, and with modifications for extra functions.
So, it’s not so much the appearance, mind you it does look the part, it's sleek, classic, gold, perfect size etc.etc...but what makes all the difference, is what’s hidden inside. This Eterna-Matic 1414U caliber was launched in 1953, and it is so intriguing and exciting, but most important it is a very trustworthy movement, it was created to withstand extreme conditions, or simply a fall to the ground...though I wouldn't advise you to test this at home or elsewhere, I mean we are looking at a watch from 1957, almost 70 years of age...
An Eterna-Matic advertisement from 1953 reads: ‘There’s a rustle of excitement’ and ‘The Eterna-Matic excels even among selfwinders’.
