You can trace the Cortébert roots back as early as 1790, it took them a while to register the Cortébert brand, but in 1855 it was officially registered. As Abraham-Louis Juillard started his workshop in his hometown Cortébert, Switzerland the name brand Cortébert was obviously the best choice, plus it made the company easy to locate. Cortébert manufactured their own inhouse movements, they also supplied movements for brands such as Rolex and Panerai. They created a jump-hour movement which was used by IWC. Cortébert contributed to the development of the watch industry in Russia by selling machinery and sharing their technical knowledge. Cortébert specialized in railway watches for several countries. The railway watches for the Italian market came under the name Perseo, and became very well-known and cherished. And believe it or not, even to this day the Perseo brand is used within the Italian Railroad System.
Where to begin? This beautiful 1940s Cortébert Sport watch has so many plus points. The stainless-steel glossy case has a lovely shape, the lugs are slightly raised on the left and right sides of the case, further emphasizing the long, curved shape of the lugs. The screwed back of the case with 6 notches can be closed extra firmly to prevent moisture and dust from entering. The original lead gasket is still secured snug between the case top and back. The watch is also provided with an Anti-magnetic shield. The two-tone dial is truly beautiful; the outer ring has a slightly pearly, gold-colored hue, while the inner ring is matte beige. The dial and text, indicators, rotating luminous numbers and dots look unblemished, as do the watch hands. The luminous on the dial and hands has aged into a beautiful dark bronze-olive shade. The high-quality, reliable Cortébert inhouse manual wind 677 caliber movement has incabloc. Incabloc was developed in the 1930’s and it works as a shock-absorption system, in case of a fall. The watch strap width is 17mm, but the 18mm gray seatbelt fabric watchstrap slides on easily.
