The Wyler adventure began in 1924 when Victor and Paul Wyler founded the ‘Paul Wyler & Cie Watch Factory’ in Basel, six years later they renamed it Wyler Vetta. Three years after the founding of the company they introduced their new invention, the shock-resistant "Incaflex" balance wheel, which they patented in 1927. It was to become famous for its incomparable durability, they even went so far as to drop it off the Eiffel Tower in 1931 to prove their point, with the ‘Rachet’ model and with success! They did it again in 1956 with the Dynastar model. All a bit extreme, never the less, it attracted a lot of media attention. Wyler was also known for its water-resistant properties. The story goes that Albert Einstein fell into the water in Central Park in America in 1944 while wearing his Wyler watch. The watch survived the plunge without any water seeping through. As a token of appreciation for the excellent quality of the Wyler watch, Albert Einstein wrote a letter to the Wyler company to thank them. In the 1930s and 40s, Wyler was the quintessential sports watch, and many famous athletes owned a Wyler. Later, they also invested in sports car races such as the Mille Miglia, the legendary Italian endurance road race. I can almost feel the train on the railroad tracks jerking you around, as you try and sit comfortably on your seat, maybe I’m out of touch regarding railroad travel. No doubt you will not miss a train with is clearer than clear dial, which is in pristine condition. The watch hands have a lovely shape; they are made of blued steel which gives it the most amazing shades of blue. The dial consists of a 12-hour black scale and a red 24-hour, it also reads ‘Railroad Approved’ and the word ‘Incaflex’ referring to the patented indestructible balance wheel inside. It isn’t an easy watch to open as it is a ‘monobloc’ which means you can only get access to the movement by lifting the crystal. Every aspect is of the Wyler is original, the crown and crystal carry the ‘W’ logo. Only the soft cherry red canvas strap has been added.
