According to the Universal Geneve serial number database this Universal was manufactured in 1942.The stainless-steel case, which looks amazing by the way, measures 39mm from lug to lug, and 31.5mm in diameter. The sides are brushed, and it has a screw-back with six notches, just like the good old ‘sei tacche’ watches. The inside of the case back its signed with the remarkable Universal trademark logo which came into use in the same year that the Universal company was officially renamed to Universal Genève in 1937. The Universal trademark logo was designed by Raoul Perret, the son of Georges Perret-Knoll who took over the business that same year. The case back is also signed ‘Enversteel’ which is a very durable stainless-steel alloy Universal developed and used for their watches during the 1930’s-40’s.
The crown, is chunky, and gives you good grip while winding. On close inspection you can see that the original dial is covered in teenie winnie little dots, but they are spread out so evenly creating an overall pattern, this in no way spoils the overall look of the watch, it actually makes it quite unique. The watch hands are blued steel and filled with luminous, as are the numerals. The second-hand is painted in a lovely mid-red shade.
It’s a handsome no-nonsense manual wind watch from the luxurious Universal watch brand that would do ever so well as a day-to-day work watch. Inside you will find the Swiss Universal in-house 265 caliber movement, nothing humble or simple about it, matter of fact, it’s a rather striking movement which offers you a high-quality time machine.
Looking for a reliable, steadfast companion who is there for you day and night, though I advise you not to exhaust your partner, but to give yourselves some space at night, you wouldn’t want to accumulate dust in unwanted places ㋡
