The ‘Lancet’ watch brand is one of the many sub brand names Langendorf Watch Company used. The Swiss Langendorf Watch Company was founded by Johann Kottmann and known for its exquisite craftsmanship. They produced watches for a hundred years beginning in 1873. It has been suggested that the Langendorf Watch Co. was the largest watch manufacturer in the1890’s. Lancet was mainly known for its military trench watches during WWI.
This is such a breathtaking watch, its large smooth cushion shaped case is rose gold filled on brass and signed ‘Fahys Montauk’. Fahys Montauk’ was an historic, high-quality watch case designer from the golden age of (pocket) watches. The cases from Fahys Montauk were known for their strong construction, craftsmanship, designs and capacity to protect watches from dirt and damp.
The eye-catching union shape crown gives you plenty of winding grip. The white enamel dial is stunning and in perfect condition, the luminous filling of the numerals and hands is fully intact. The 12 o’clock is red, something frequently on trench watches especially on the early wristwatches, as the crown shifted a quarter down, from the 12 to the 3 o’clock.
This breathtaking beauty is powered by the Swiss Movado 420 caliber movement. According to the 'Movado History' book from Frits von Osterhausen page 52 and 206 this caliber dates from 1914 to ca. 1917. The movement is nicknamed “Soldatenuhr”. The watch in the Movado book on page 52 looks very similar to the Lancet. The 420-caliber movement is a top quality, refined and reliable movement with a lovely Geneva Stripe finish.
A huge number of watches produced were meant for overseas markets, so exporting the watches in parts was much more lucrative, because in doing so they could avoid paying for duties. So, the case, the dial and the movement came from different companies, but all three are of the utmost fine superb quality...a (trio) match made in heaven.
