Universal brand came to life in 1894 when classmates Numa-Émile Descombes and Ulysse-Georges Perret founded the company in Le Locle, Switzerland. From the get go they manufactured complete watches with in-house movements. Universal Genève created the first-ever chronograph in 1917. In 1919 they moved to Rue de Rhône in Geneva, and in doing so they ensured that Universal became a Geneva brand. In 1933 the ambitious son of Raoul Perret, Ulysse-George’s took over at the helm and brought the company to an all-time high, and for the next four decades the Universal brand flourished and expand. Mind you, it wasn’t only the chronograph watches that made them stand out, as they produced some amazing watches over the years.
This fine specimen plays the perfect part of stylish sophistication, and no-nonsense Universal Genève. Dating from 1945 according to the serial number on the data base. The stainless-steel case is beautifully brushed, only the bezel and robust crown have a shine. This Universal Geneve watch is powered by the Swiss manual wind caliber 268 movement, with incabloc. Inside the case back you can see the Universal Genève logo, which was designed by Ulysse Perret's son, Raoul in 1937. It also reads ‘Enversteel’, this early alloy was registered by Universal Genève, and used during the mid-20th century. It was mainly used on military-issued watches, as the properties were made for extra durability similar to "Staybrite". The dial, with ultra fine seconds indexes, numerals and hands look amazing. We added a sand color canvas strap, with embroidered holes.
Universal Geneve offers you confidence, a partnership you can count on, trustworthy and full of character.
