During the Art Deco period and far beyond Jaeger-LeCoultre produced a fabulous large selection of rectangular watches for men and woman, most made in stainless steel. Does ‘Reverso’ ring a bell¿? And as the Reverso this LeCoultre model falls under the same category of ‘Uniplan’, meaning the movements are made on one level. Like this model many more were especially created for lace straps. Inside you will find the beautiful Jaeger-LeCoultre Swiss 407 caliber movement with a Geneva stripe finish. A rather amusing ad from retailer TYME LTD, London 1937 reads: "You needn’t dial TIM or wait for the wireless pips if you have a watch by Jeager-LeCoultre” and ‘Many of the world’s masterpieces emanate from this famous factory- the ‘Haute École’ of watchmaking’. Further on it says; ‘In possessing one of these watches you have the satisfaction of knowing that you have the best -money cannot buy better’. Well, I couldn’t state it better than this.
The Art Deco period symbolizes great luxury. In those days they spent extensive attention to detail creating sleek geometric lines, such as sunbursts, streamlined and stepped patterns, these could be found on all aspects such as buildings, cars, jewelry, clothing interiors, accessories and watches of course.
