I recently noticed the launch of classic Alpina models, new, big and actually nothing like the originals. Mind you, I'm not in the habit of bashing new releases, every one should buy whatever they prefer.
We’ll stick to the real deal though, everyone can buy new, and just like your new sports car, after your first test drive the new is no longer new. We’ll opt for the real deal any and every time, it has character, originality, a heart that has been beating for a life time and still has many a lifetime to go.
This mid-1950’s Alpina is 32 mm in diameter excluding the crown and the lugs. The stainless-steel case has seen some action, but the markings are insignificant. The freshly serviced 17 jewel Alpina caliber 588 manual wind movement looks remarkable and is working well.
The movement is kept safe from dust and whatnot by the dust cover, which is placed over the movement and sits tightly between the movement and the case back. The case back is screwed on, and held extra shut and secure with the original lead gasket. The black dial with Arabic numerals is original, and looking well, it is not a pitch-black color, but slightly lighter.
Probably unnecessary to mention, but all the watches we sell have received a total overhaul before they are sold, we also offer 1 year warranty. But even after this period we are more than happy to help you. And as with your sports car it does need a service now and again, to keep it running smoothly.
