The remarkable Swiss in-house Movado Automatic Bumper Calibre 115, better known as the ‘Futuramic’, was manufactured from 1950 to 1959. At the time of its introduction, it was regarded as the thinnest automatic movement in the world. Its most distinctive feature is the innovative S-shaped flexible suspension of the oscillating weight, a unique design that makes the movement instantly recognizable. The patented S-shaped bumper was invented to serve as a spring, helping the rotor to swivel and bump. During the golden age of Swiss watchmaking, from the early 20th century through the late 1960s, Movado was among the industry's most innovative and respected manufacturers. The brand earned an outstanding reputation for combining technical ingenuity with exceptional craftsmanship and elegant design. Movado watches from this era are highly regarded for their quality, reliability, and historical significance. The stainless-steel case has a snap back with circular graining, giving it a satin finish. When you tilt the case back, it catches the light in a propeller-like pattern. The sides have received a linear horizontal graining and the lugs have been grained vertically, rather unusual combination.
et, the most striking feature of this Movado is the engine turning/guilloché pattern on the dial, resembling upside down waves.
This is a remarkably well-preserved Movado with fascinating, distinctive features.
