Founded in Saint-Imier, Switzerland in 1892 the Moeris watch factory would soon evolve into a superb quality watch brand.Fritz Moeri was joined by his brother-in-law Albert Jeanneret, so now there were two watch specialists at the helm. At some stage they even developed a high-volume production scheme, by making it possible for watch parts to be interchangeable, and thereby marking a major advance in the watchmaking process. Officially the brand name Moeris was registered in 1901 after the death of Albert Jeanneret in 1899. Moeris went on to build a large factory, he was member of the watchmaking school, and one of the founders of its mechanical engineering division. Fritz Moeri aimed to sell high quality watches to a large audience, and he succeeded. The quality of his watches had not gone unnoticed, for which he received several prestigious awards over the years. At some stage the company was named ‘ Fabrique des Montres SA Moeris’. The real success came when the British Ministry of Defense placed a larger order for the manufacture of watches for the Officers fighting in WWII, and much later Moris gained popularity due to the model he released based on the James Bond 007 movie in 1966.
A…d r u m…r u f f l e...e f f e c t…this is so farfetched, so unique and beautifully designed, it looks like a watch on wheels. You will never see or find a second one like it. The case feels almost sharp to the touch, as if new. Inside you will find an inhouse Moeris movement 8¾ which was launched in 1930. It’s a high-quality fine movement, as Moeris was known to make all their own movements inhouse. The dial has been redone at some stage, neatly done though.
