Henry Sandoz and Théodore Schwob joint venture in becoming two watch companies, financing each other and building a watch empire. They actually coexisted in difference markets to avoid any competition with each other. Tavannes Watch Co. brand was officially registered in 1894. They mass produced watch movements, and interchangeable watch parts. In the beginning they imported watch cases from the USA, but in 1897 they began making their own cases. The Cyma trademark was registered in 1903. By the turn of the century Tavannes Watch had 300 employees and they produced 800 watches a day. Two years later both companies merge into the stunning luxurious building in La Chaux-de-Fonds, this building was equipped with every luxury available to create a breathtaking jaw-dropping impression on the customers. There were telephones, electric lighting, elevators etc. By 1908 the Tavannes factory had 900 employees, producing 2,500 watches in one day, but this too would soon be surpassed, as the business kept expanding further. Eventually Tavannes became one of the largest watchmaking factories in Switzerland. There is much more interesting info to be found about this amazing watch brand.
This Cyma Tavannes stems from the magical Art Deco period. The original two-tone dial looks amazing and has aged beautifully. The dial is mat except for the glossy, black outlined indexes and the rectangular outline, separating the inner and outer segments. The watch hands have a very Art Deco cubist form and are created in a shiny metal. The sleek case is stainless steel and overall glossy except for the brushed sides and back. The minimalistic stainless-steel crown sits close to the case and has good winding grip. Inside you will find the superb high-quality Swiss Cyma Tavannes movement reference 063 which was launched in the year 1930. The ratchet wheel is signed Cyma and two Swiss Federal Crosses, these are often seen on Swiss movements, often in reference to the patent.
