The Swiss Mido Company has been around since 1918, over the years they have designed some jaw dropping pieces, and let’s not forget their lovable humorous Robot prop named 'Robi', he first showed up in 1939, and he pops up in many vintage watch adds.
I believe Mido is best known for their Multifort watches, these were launched in the 1930’s. They were considered utterly durable watches, not surprising as they carried an unbreakable mainspring, were shock resistance, anti-magnetic and water resistant, and they were the first to use an incabloc jewel setting. And as if it couldn’t get any better, they were soon sold with self-winding movements. Plus, they offered an extensive range of models to choose from. The Multifort watches were so popular, they sold for over two decades.
The Mido Multifort Super Automatic at hand has the robust bolt design stainless steel case, or should I say rustless steel, as stated on the inside of the case back. The case is without a doubt a FB - François Borgel even though it is not signed. The watch is powered by the 817 caliber Swiss Mido bumper automatic movement which was launched in the mid 1930’s, it’s a great design, and built to last. The case is untouched, the movement freshly serviced, and tuned. The dark brown/grayish color strap is original to the watch; we think it complements the watch quite nicely.
